Tristan Alexander, LMSW

Therapist

Pronouns: he/him/they/them

I approach every individual's story with compassion and humility, because every story deserves to be heard with attentive ears. My approach to therapy is to empower individuals to feel in control of their lives and believe in their ability to accomplish their goals and pursue their dreams. Therapy is a space where individuals find positive physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual health outcomes.

About Tristan

As a first generation Afro-Caribbean queer male clinician, I understand the complexities that come with navigating: relationship conflict, self-doubt, isolation, imposter syndrome, living with trauma, unhelpful thoughts and coping strategies, living with shame and guilt, and not feeling “present” in the body. These complexities often pose barriers which keep us feeling stuck physically and mentally. The intersection of my identities allows me to empathize with the physical and invisible barriers that marginalized people and communities have to navigate.

Working with Tristan

In my approach to therapy,  I aim to build authentic connections by acknowledging how identity, culture, and systemic issues (i.e., politics) shape lived experiences. I strive to foster inclusive spaces where clients feel seen, empowered, and supported in their healing. I explore family dynamics, childhood experiences, and relationships with parents. I help people identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts. I teach people to identify, understand, and manage their emotions.  I challenge people to create new ways of solving complex problems. I encourage people to believe in their innate capabilities to succeed in moments of trials and tribulations. I educate people to help increase their understanding of themselves and teach them how to feel present in their bodies.
