Announcing a collaboration between The Gender & Sexuality Therapy Center and Project SEL!

We’re so excited to announce a collaboration between The Gender & Sexuality Therapy Center and Project SEL!

We will be providing two free mental health workshops for trans immigrant folks in NYC. Facilitated by Project SEL founder Yösel Nadik and G&STC Therapist Alexandra Askenazi Marcus, the first workshop will take place on August 13th from 2-5 pm at room 203 at The Center on 208 W 13th st.

Mental Health 101 : Navigating Identity and Belonging

This workshop will operate in an open dialogue, group therapy style discussion surrounding both cultural identity and gender identity. We want to begin our workshop series by highlighting the unique intersection of navigating today’s world as a trans/non-binary person and an immigrant.

The workshop is open to Trans and Gender Non-Conforming (TGNC) Immigrants and those with immigrant backgrounds, regardless of immigration status.  Attendees can expect to learn more about accessing mental health resources such as therapy, discussions on gender, and cultural identity/intersectionality and belonging in today's current climate.

This event is free to attend! We ask that all participants sign up here. Spanish subtitles will be included on the presentation slides.

About Yösel

Yösel is a Bhutanese transgender woman and passionate advocate for mental health and trans rights. The lack of mental health resources for trans immigrants, and the loss of a close friend inspired her to launch Project SEL. She has been undergoing consistent therapy for the past 5 years and has experience navigating trauma based therapy along with Exposure & Response Prevention therapy for OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder)

About Alexandra

Alexandra is a cisgender, bilingual therapist who has experience providing therapy in both English & Spanish. She uses an intersectional feminist, trauma-informed, and ecological perspective when working with her clients to create a plan that is informed by their purpose and goals. At G&STC, Alexandra offers Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy as well as group therapy to support her clients on their therapeutic journey.
