G&STC Stands with Black Communities and Firmly Opposes Violence Against All Black Lives

In light of the murders of George Floyd, Tony McDade and Breonna Taylor by police, G&STC expresses our firm stance in solidarity with local and global Black communities protesting and demanding institutional overhaul of the systems that dehumanize Black lives.

Racial injustice and police violence have been the reality of Black people and communities for centuries within this country. It is imperative that we begin by acknowledging these wrongs, but we cannot stop there. We must also stand alongside those working tirelessly to ensure that Black people around the world can survive and thrive.

As a predominantly white and non-black POC (NBPOC) therapy center, G&STC stands in support of the Black Lives Matter Movement to "bring justice, healing, and freedom to Black people across the globe." We stand in solidarity with Black lives, not just now, but always. We urge white folks and NBPOC  to sign BLM’s petition calling for “sustainable transformation,” “acknowledgment and accountability for the devaluation and dehumanization of Black life at the hands of the police” and “for radical, sustainable solutions that affirm the prosperity of Black lives.”

The fight for queer and trans liberation has been and continues to be led by Black and brown community members. Our community would not be where it is today without visionaries like Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, Stormé DeLarverie, Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, and countless others. The opportunities we, and particularly white LGBTQ folks, enjoy today were won through rioting. We stand in solidarity with our Black siblings, both within our LGBTQ communities and beyond, to say enough is enough, silence is complicit, and complicity means murder.

We urge our white and NBPOC counterparts  to join us in a commitment to redistribute financial resources (i.e- “donating”) to BLM and resistance funds

We urge our white and NBPOC counterparts to join us in a commitment to educating yourself, your colleagues, friends and family about anti-racism and white supremacy via resources, toolkits and webinars.

We urge our white and NBPOC counterparts to show up in these ways and more and to bring your unique strengths to the strong collective of individuals fighting for Black lives.

In Solidarity,

G&STC
